Advice to Singaporeans on the Flood Situation in Sumatra
28 November 2025
Consular update
The Indonesian Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysical Agency (BMKG) has issued an extreme weather alert for multiple areas in Sumatra, including the provinces of North Sumatra, West Sumatra and Aceh till 2 December 2025. Continuous rainfall and unpredictable weather conditions are expected to persist in these areas. Landslides and floods in affected areas have disrupted communications and rendered many roads unusable. There are reports of petrol shortages at petrol stations. The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) and Regional Disaster Management Agencies (BPBD) have activated emergency response operations in the affected areas.
Singaporeans in North Sumatra, West Sumatra and Aceh provinces are advised to closely monitor local media and official updates from the Indonesian government. As with all overseas travel, Singaporeans are advised to exercise vigilance and take the necessary precautions for their personal safety by heeding the advice of local authorities.
